Crafting Our Cozy Corner
The journey to creating our fire pit was filled with anticipation and a bit of elbow grease. It began on a crisp morning, tools in hand, with a vision to transform a simple patch of grass into a warm, inviting retreat. Our choice of materials — corten steel for its weathered elegance and crushed limestone for its rustic charm — was influenced by the natural beauty of Port Lincoln.
The Process
Clearing the Stage: We started by digging out the grass and removing weeds. It was tough going, but imagining our guests enjoying the space kept us motivated.
Laying the Groundwork: Next, a weed mat was placed to halt any future weed invasions, ensuring our fire pit area would remain pristine.
Forming the Circle of Warmth: We carefully arranged the corten steel edging to form a perfect circle. Its height was meticulously set just below the grass line to seamlessly blend into its surroundings and prevent any tripping hazards.
Filling with Care: Finally, we poured in the limestone, raking and leveling meticulously, then repeated the process until the base was perfectly flat and ready for fireside chats.
The First Fire: A Valley View Tradition
The inaugural lighting of the fire pit was a moment of celebration. We gathered around, the cool evening air making the warmth of the flames even more welcome. With a toast of Port Lincoln’s finest red, we christened our new gathering spot, excited to share it with travelers from around the world.
